Rescue Remedy: support for intense moments
Bad news, a minor accident, an important exam or a stressful journey. For such moments, Dr. Bach created Rescue Remedy, the best-known combination of flower remedies in the world.
What is Rescue Remedy?
Rescue Remedy is a ready-made combination of five Bach flower remedies. It is also known as Five Flower Remedy and is sold under various brand names. It is not a 39th flower remedy, but a combination of five of the 38 remedies in the system, designed for times of intense stress or turmoil.
The five flower remedies
Star of Bethlehem: for shock, after unpleasant news or an unexpected event.
Rock Rose: for intense fear and panic.
Impatiens: for tension, nervousness and impatience.
Cherry Plum: for the fear of losing control.
Clematis: for the feeling of being "elsewhere", spaced out or disconnected from the moment.
How it was created
The combination was born in the early 1930s in Cromer, on the Norfolk coast, where Dr. Bach spent his winters. The story goes that a small ship was wrecked during a storm and two sailors clung to the mast for hours. When one of them was brought to shore unconscious and in a state of shock, Dr. Bach gave him the flower remedies to help him overcome the shock and terror.
When is it used?
Rescue Remedy is intended for moments when disruption comes suddenly, for example:
before an exam, an interview or a speech,
after unpleasant news or a minor accident,
before a flight or a trip that makes us anxious,
in a heated argument or on a day when "everything goes wrong."
How is it taken?
According to the Bach Centre guidelines:
In a glass of water: 4 drops in a glass of water, drunk in small sips as often as needed.
Directly: 4 drops on the tongue, repeating as needed.
Flower remedies are gentle and natural and can be used by people of all ages. There are also alcohol-free versions, which are often preferred for children.
Rescue Remedy and animals
Animals also experience moments of intense stress: fireworks, a visit to the vet, a car trip, a move or the arrival of a new member in the household. Rescue Remedy can support them in the same gentle way.
The dosage is the same as for humans. The drops can be given in a treat or added to the animal's water. For small animals and birds, it is better to dilute the remedy or choose an alcohol-free version.
As a complementary support, Rescue Remedy works on the emotional level. When there is an injury or health problem, it accompanies veterinary care and does not replace it.
For sudden moments and for deeper needs
Rescue Remedy is ideal for intense, sudden moments. But when an emotion keeps coming back, such as persistent fear, constant worry, or difficulty adjusting to change, a personal blend from the 38 flower remedies is better suited to your or your pet's situation.
At iasma we create such blends in in-person or online sessions. See our sessions or contact us.
